Fed. Appeals Court Issues Split Decision Over Prayer At School Bd. Meetings

DOE V. TANGIPAHOA PARISH SCHL. BD.U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit, Dec. 18, 2006A permanent injunction barring a school board from opening its meetings with prayer is affirmed where the prayers demonstrated a clear preference for Christianity, and thus, were not permitted federal law. The injunction, however, requires significant narrowing since it enjoins all prayers at school board meetings.
